Look Glamorous, Feel Comfortable: What to Wear to Class

By Amanda Cohen on November 11, 2017

As a college student, I always have a hard time when getting dressed for class. You see, I want to be as comfortable as possible, but I also don’t want to look like a slob.

Sure there are some days where all fashion instincts go out the window and I put on my baggiest sweatpants, a sweatshirt, Ugg boots, complete with messy hair, but I try to veer away from this as much as possible because you never know who you may see.

It’s actually funny that I never see people when I look good for class, but when I look like a wreck I see everybody on the face of the planet. I am here to tell you that after three-and-a-half years of being a college student, I have finally perfected my comfortable, yet stylish, ensembles.

These styles are perfect for a few reasons: (1) they never take more than 15-20 minutes to put together, (2) you can move around freely in them and never feel restrained, and (3) they are cool enough to go to casual dinners and to go sit in your bed in between classes. Read on if you are interested in anything I just said!

Shabby-Chic

Shabby-chic is the perfect style to wear on a chilly Fall day; plus I guarantee most of you will not have to go out and buy new clothes because you have this entire outfit in your closet. Here are all of the items that you will need to perfect this look: black leggings, a long-sleeve top, a flannel, Adidas (or calf-cut boots depending on the weather), and a beanie (depending on the weather).

Leggings are comfortable and easy to move around in, while also somewhat resembling jeans, which makes them more socially acceptable to wear to class. Flannels add the perfect amount of warmth for a Fall day, and they are extremely cozy! Finish off this look with a messy top-bun or a ponytail and boom, you’ve perfected the shabby-chic lifestyle.

Sporty-Sexy

In reality, this look is not all that sexy, but the heading sounded good, so I went with it. This is personally my favorite look since I go to class straight from the gym, or go to the gym right after class. This look is simple. All you need are workout leggings (or shorts depending on the weather), a sporty workout tank, a tight long-sleeve workout top, an oversized bomber jacket, sneakers, and a ponytail.

This outfit may not sound that cute, but it will be if you match your top to the rest of your outfit. Not only is this outfit extremely comfortable, but you will look badass because you get to show off your sportiness. However, this outfit does not work as well if you wear a baggy graphic top; this option may be comfortable, but it goes against the glamorous workout look.

Jogger-Lover

Joggers rule the world. And no, I am not talking about people who jog, I am talking about jogger-pants. Joggers are great because they have the same feel of generic sweatpants, but since they are more fitted they are more socially acceptable to wear in public and to class.

This is a great option for Fall and Winter because you can add as many layers to this look as you want. Here is everything you need: joggers, a tight long-sleeve or tank-top (depends on the weather), a sweater, a long jacket (if it is necessary because of weather), Adidas (or a different pair of trendy sneakers), and a messy bun. This outfit is the perfect cross-section of trendiness and comfort and I would like to personally thank whoever made joggers a thing (you have all of my gratitude).

These three looks are the perfect cross-section of comfort and glamour. If you are still skeptical about some of the looks, experiment for a few days. See how you look and feel wearing regular sweatpants compared to how you look and feel while wearing joggers. If you are concerned about breaking the bank, don’t be (this wasn’t meant to be harsh, this is meant to be honest). You can buy any and all of these items from websites that offer great prices: Tobi, Amazon, eBay, etc. Some of the pricier websites also offer amazing sales on these items, so be sure to check out these websites as well.

A common myth about looking good for class is that you have to wear makeup to look good — WRONG. I don’t think I’ve worn makeup to class since high school! Embrace your natural beauty and go au natural. As long as you wash and moisturize your face in the morning, it isn’t necessary to wear any makeup.

If you do choose to wear makeup, stick with minimal makeup: mascara and under-eye concealer is all you need! I hope this article helped a lot of you who struggle with this dilemma! Happy shopping!
